Noble Jacks – Pre-Tour Chat

We caught up with Matt, Noble Jacks guitarist, ahead of their Blacksmith Stomp Spring Tour 2018, which includes The Bodega, Nottingham, on 5th April…

They have already been touring relentlessly, stompin’ their way round the UK with sold out headline shows promoting their debut album ‘What the Hammer’ as well as shows at major festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown Fair, and Bestival to name but a few.

NMNM

This is going to be your biggest tour to date then?

Matt

Yeah it’s really exciting! This is our third UK tour, all of which we’ve done over the last year. We toured promoting our debut album What The Hammer. The venues keep getting bigger and bigger which is incredible!

We’re all just really buzzing to get out on the road again! I can’t really sit still!

NMNM

Yeah I can imagine! What’s the biggest venue on this tour?

Matt

The biggest venue on this tour is The Haunt in Brighton (our hometown) – its a 370 cap! We supported a band called Ferocious Dog there last year and we were just blown away by the sound in there … it’s huge!

We’re actually down to the last few tickets there, so it should be Sold Out very soon! It’s going to be a crazy night!

NMNM

It definitely looks like a fun event to go to – lots of loud energy! Are you pretty much sold out for most cities?

Matt

Haha yeah we don’t hold back! We give it everything we’ve got on stage. I think we all just get a bit caught up in the music!

We’ve got two shows sold out already in Guildford and Bristol and Tickets are selling really fast at all our shows, even parts of the country we haven’t really played before! Just really grateful to all the fans of our music for grabbing tickets!

NMNM

Love what I’ve seen on video. You can feel the vibe easily just from your promo video. What’s the best part about touring for you?

Matt

The best part of touring is just getting that buzz every night when we’re playing, with all our fans there going nuts. You have to pinch yourself that it’s all happening!

But yeah also, just being out on the road; meeting some really cool new people and getting to see a new bit of the country every day is pretty awesome!

NMNM

Yeah I bet it’s amazing. Have you known each other a long time?

Matt

Yeah we all go waaaaay back! Will and I have been playing together for the last 5 years!

He heard me playing guitar through the wall at uni and he burst through my door and asked if I wanted to jam.

NMNM

Ha, that’s a good way to meet.

Matt

Rest is history, as they say!

NMNM

What’s happened over the last 5 years – has it been an easy road?

Matt

It’s been a really incredible journey to be fair… We started off just playing covers at pubs around Kent/Sussex, but then started throwing a few of our own songs in and people really began to dig it.

So then we really focused on our own material and the speed at which we’ve gained a following over about the last 3 years is unbelievable! I remember when we were at Glastonbury, we all just stopped and said, “We were all playing down the local a few years ago, now we’re at Glasto!”

NMNM

It’s great that you’re doing so well! Have you got many plans for the future? Or are you just enjoying it all and seeing where it goes?

Matt

For the future, we’re definitely looking ahead to our next set of releases and we’ve been in the studio a lot over the last few months! We’re keeping it very close to our chest at the moment, so I’m not going to give too much away – but watch out for us this summer 🙂

NMNM

I guessed you wouldn’t be slowing down any time soon! Have you played Nottingham before?

Matt

Yeah, so we’ve played Notts a few times. First time was at the Doghouse and then we supported Rusty Shackle at The Bodega in November, which was an awesome evening, they blew the roof off!

NMNM

Oh right. Sadly the Doghouse has closed recently but might open again as something else in another location.

Matt

Ah no that’s a real shame! It was a really cool venue – I hate it when you hear about independent venues closing down … it’s happening too often unfortunately 😞

NMNM

Yeah I’ll miss the Doghouse, but Baz who ran it is looking into sorting something else out soon.

Why should people come along to the Bodega on 5th April?

Matt

Come down for a night of getting loose with your mates, stomping the hell out of the floor and just partyin. We’re bringing a hell of a lot of energy and we’ve also got a few suprises we’ll be dropping in for those that have seen our show before! It’s going to be a really pumping night!

NMNM

Well said. It will be a great night. Readers should definitely get down there.

Thanks for chatting with us!

Matt

Awesome, thanks so much for having us!
