Paul Walker

Paul Walker

Tricky, laid back country blues slide guitar with gritty vocals. My own take on J.J. Cale, the Stones, some older tunes, with some original tunes thrown in.

Can you give a brief history of your music journey so far?

I guess I really found my voice busking around Europe, if you can play strange street corners you can play anywhere. Came back to the U.K. playing folk/rock on the usual circuits for many years…

Till about 2 years ago, when I started to get really disillusioned with my music, finding myself unable to find a way forward to such an extent I nearly hung up my gloves for good, Instead I bought a resonator, a slide, and rekindled an old love for the blues. After experimenting with slides and tuning I have begun a whole new journey to find my own sound.

What are you working on at the moment?

Looking for new tunes new tunes, writing, finding neat little venues. I play at The Pillar Box in Sherwood once a fortnight, I guess my laid back style suits more intimate venues.

What do you think about the Nottingham music scene?

Plenty of open mics, and gigs put on by “promoters” who will put up 5 or more artists in a pub, but very few who will pay the performers.

Busking with amplifiers?

Not really, its not a gig, don’t treat it as such. Can be too intrusive. There is something quite primal about just you, your guitar, and your voice, keep it real folks.
